Thanks to the generosity of United Way of Central Indiana, we are able to have computer “tablets” in each of our classrooms.  They are another tool the teachers can use to bring educational opportunities into their young students. Here’s a picture from the infant room at Day Nursery Start Smart 4 Children at Ft. Harrison.  These children are exploring colors and shapes through an art program.

As always, there was a good turnout for the Day Nursery Auxiliary Annual Meeting held Friday, May 7 at the Meridian Hills Country Club. Outgoing president Shirley Romine presented the Day Nursery Association a check for $20,000 which brings the total donation for the membership year to $30,000! In addition to this donation, Shirley announced that 23 members made a contribution to the special scholarship matching challenge and the total donated to the Association from that initiative will be over $6,500 (donations were still being tallied as I left the meeting so I will update this number when it becomes available.) During the business meeting, the membership voted to approve the slate of officers (see our new leaders listed to the right). Incoming Co-Presidents Joan Lyday and Spencer Scott presented Shirley Romine with a gold Day Nursery Auxiliary logo charm to thank her for her year of service. Six members were honored for joining the 50 Year Club. Marjorie Meyer was the only member of six who was able to attend. Shirley read a nice note sent by Char Lugar who was unable to attend the honor due to two grandsons graduating from college on the same weekend. Other 50 year members honored were Mary Helen Dobbs, Dorothy Elliott, Patsy Hueber, and B.J. Maley.  Here are some pictures from the annual meeting. To see a larger image, just click on the picture.
